One knows Skoda's past if only from the time of communism after the Second World War. The importance of this company remains hidden behind it. Probably only insider just know that the company has built an eight-cylinder engine with the 860 Cabriolet de Ville in 1932.
Therefore, it happens to us quite right when Škoda is presenting its sporting successes at the Rally Monte Carlo. In 1936 the model Popular (Phol/Hausmann) achieved second place in the class up to 1.5 liters there. After all, the car managed the complete 3852 kilometers from Athens without penalty points.
Interesting is the technology that underlies this vehicle and thus probably the racing success. Pretty unusual for a car with front engine of that time, the central tubular frame and rear independent suspension. 80 years since all of this and Škoda again is the most successful manufacturer in the home market and respected, at least throughout whole Europe. 01/16
